Soprano Lainey Prendeville joined the Epitelo Music Academy in October of 2008 as private voice, piano and guitar instructor. She earned her Bachelor's degree in Music Performance from the University of Dayton in May 2007, and has since continued vocal studies while teaching voice privately.
While pursuing her undergraduate degree, Lainey participated
in the University of Dayton's Opera Workshop, performing numerous roles in
opera scenes productions, including Carmen in Bizet's Carmen, Cenerentola in Rossini's La Cenerentola, The Countess in Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro, Miss Wingrave in Britten's Owen Wingrave, and Susannah Polk in Floyd's Susannah. She was also a
member of the Dayton Opera chorus, performing among world renowned artists in
such masterpieces as Saint Saens' Samson et Dalila, Bizet's Carmen, Strauss' Die Fledermaus, and Gilbert & Sullivan's H.M.S. Pinafore. As a member
of the University of Dayton Chorale, Prendeville toured Eastern Europe,
performing in cathedrals throughout Germany, Hungary, Poland, and
Slovakia.
Lainey has also
competed in a vast array of voice competitions, winning top prizes each year in
the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) regionals. In January of 2006 she received 2nd
place in the Ohio Federation of Music Clubs competition, and was a UD Honor's
Recital Finalist in 2007.
Following her
graduation in May of 2007, Prendeville moved to the Eastern Shore of Maryland
to study with tenor John Wesley Wright and further her education in voice
performance. While there, she performed
in Salisbury University's production of Purcell's Dido and Aeneas as Belinda.
Lainey performed with the Salisbury Symphony Orchestra as the Soprano
soloist for Mendelssohn's oratorio, Elijah,
and was well received in numerous recitals, art shows and masterclasses
throughout Salisbury. As a soprano
soloist in the Celebration of the African
American Spiritual, Prendeville also had the privilege of working with
members of the American Spiritual Ensemble, which is known throughout the world
for their passionate and compelling renditions of spirituals. During her years
with the Fort Hayes Metropolitan Singers in Columbus OH, she was honored to
perform at Carnegie Hall in the feature choir of the Ohio Youth Chorale
performance in 2001, which gave her the opportunity to work with and under the
direction of the great composer/arranger/director of African American
spirituals, the late Moses Hogan. All of
these experiences have nurtured and inspired her deep passion for spirituals
and opera, although Lainey has also enjoyed performing in musicals such as
Simon's The Secret Garden and
Menken's Little Shop of Horrors. With such a diverse repertoire of art songs,
opera, oratorio, and musical theater, she also enjoys combining all of these
influences into a folk/blues genre to write her own music for the voice, guitar
and piano. Perhaps the most satisfying
feeling of all for Lainey is to have the privilege of passing on this knowledge
and passion for music to others who share her love of this incredible art
form.
